A Daily Devotion for Monday, Dec. 7

Luke 1:26-38

verse 38: “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her.

God’s word for me this advent season is “listen.” I have been reminded nearly every day- it is time for me to slow down and take time to listen for God. I am too preoccupied with other things. But maybe also I am afraid to listen closely. What Mary heard from God’s angel did not just change her world. It changed the world. She listened.

Holy One, open my eyes and my ears for your direction. Amen

Lovely devotion. I am reminded that sometimes we hear but we are not really listening. It is in the listening that we understand.

Luke 1:30, 34-35, 37, And the angel said to her Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Mary asked the angel But how can I have a baby I am a virgin. The angel replied, The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of God shall overshadow you. For nothing will be impossible with God. God was/is always looking for people to use. I ask the question am I useable, How does God want to use me. Is he eagerly waiting to use me in ways I have not even imagined. Christmas is all about the God of the Universe descending from Heaven and is born as a baby to live am…

Luke 1: 26-38

37 “For no word from God will ever fail.”

Nothing is impossible with God. Elizabeth was too old to bear a child and Mary was very young and wasn’t married yet. And yet God did the impossible in the lives of these two woman. God touches our lives making the impossible, possible. We know that God has that power. We also know that he loves us enough to want the best for us. So we trust him to love us, protect us and help us do good things in this world. We will do God’s work while on earth as best we can.

Dearest Lord, strengthen me through your love and give me the grace to accomplish…

Luke 1:30 - “The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.’”

And, by the way, you’re pregnant. After asking one simple question of the angel, Mary made the choice to trust God. I cannot think of the last time I viewed hardship or a difficult time as evidence that I had found favor with God. It is always easier in retrospect when the lesson has been learned or the result of perseverance is known. Perhaps what I am to take away from the reading of this passage in Advent 2020 is the message to trust God despite external circumstances.

Prayer - Trustworthy God, forgive my times of doubt and help me…

20201207 Monday, Daily Devotion - Luke 1:37-38 (NIV)

38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

I had a hard time with English last week. I felt that my language is so limited to share what I would like to share and it seemed I was stuck somewhere. So I took a break for a full week of my English part of my brain. But, I decided to refocus on what God has given me and what I can share in my limited English because God controls everything in my life so there might be some parts God doesn’t…
