A Daily Devotion for Friday, September 27

I Corinthians 6:19-20

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Our bodies are gifts from God. We shouldn’t abuse or neglect our physical selves, but we will never be perfect. As mature adults, we come to accept and understand our physical imperfections and ailments as they come along. But this message urges me to take better care. Do I always choose what is best for my physical self over what I “feel like” doing?

Holy Lord, help me to keep in mind, at all times, what is best for my physical self, your gift to me, and the dwelling place of your Holy Spirit. Amen

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

What a difference a word makes. I have never thought of the Holy Spirit being “in” me. With me, beside me, always there, but not “in” me. It doesn’t make a big difference, however. We should be caring for our bodies so we are able to be present and doing God’s work. I find as we age, this becomes more work and the results aren’t always what we hoped for.

Prayer: Gracious God, wherever you are Holy Spirit, guide me to good, healthy behaviors. Amen

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Our bodies are considered a home for the Holy Spirit that lives within us. We have received this gift from God. One sure way too love and honor God is to take excellent care of the healthy body he has given us, I believe I am still a work in  progress as God carries out his plan and destiny for me. I am solely responsible for the care of my body, no one…

I Corinthians 6:19-20

Seemingly out of the blue, I was called by a personal trainer who is a friend of Becky’s offering me five free training sessions. She knew I was formerly a gym regular who had not darkened the door of the gym for years. She said she felt called by God to do so. Getting back into a regular habit of exercise has not been easy, but there are obvious benefits and today’s verses emphasize that caring for one’s earthly body is Scriptural. If I am hosting a guest I want them to enjoy the best surroundings I can offer. The Holy Spirit is my body’s guest, so it’s time to make it as hospitable as I am…
