A Daily devotion for Friday, September 10

1 Peter 5:8

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

I have never really thought about what power Satan actually has on his own. But I know that when our faith is strong, it is more difficult for him to influence us. I am remembering the armor we saw a few weeks ago. When our faith is wavering, or doubt begins to make an appearance, God may be waiting for us to put on that armor as extra protection. We need to pray through the doubt. There is an expression some therapists tell their patients: fake it ‘til you make it. This encourages people to walk the walk even when they don’t “feel it.” I believe this applies to our faith as well. We continue to seek God no matter what our feelings are, and this guards us against Satan’s temptations.

Heavenly Father, you are always here with me, even when I don’t see or feel you. I will remember your Spirit never leaves me, no matter how I feel in the moment. I can always turn to you, and must never turn away, even when doubt creeps in. Amen

1 Peter 5:8 DOUBT! Doubt is the devils tool. We fall into doubt too often and don’t realize where it leads us, but the devil knows. We must realize each time a doubt creeps in, it is the devil creeping in to derail us. I heard a country song that says it well. It is similar to what Becky said: “if you’re going through hell, keep on going, don’t slow down. If your scared don’t show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you’re there” Prayer, Gracious God, remind me whenever doubt creeps into my thoughts, that I have you to turn to. Amen

1 Peter 5:8

Peter wants us to be on alert from our enemy the devil. He likens him to a lion, one of the most dangerous predictor on earth. Peter goes on to say, Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). The devil is A powerful, forceful and creative enemy who wants to devour us. Peter's first words, be sober, tells us not to let fear of him overcome us to the point that we cannot think clearly. The second words be vigilant, tells us to be fully awake, to always be watchfulness and ready. The third, resist him, is a command not to tu…

1 Peter 5: 8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour

There is no doubt in my mind that Satan exists. He shows his face in many ways. He comes to me in fear, anxiety, worry and sometimes depression. He weakens me and sometimes succeeds is his quest. I must learn the many lessons of right from wrong from the Holy Spirit as I travel through this life. The Holy Spirit is my teacher and he will show me the way to be spiritually alert of the evil one. He will help me to be vigilant and watchful. He will be my guide.

Heavenly Father, there is…

1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

I wish the devil really was like a roaring lion instead of like an insidious phantom. We have to be alert because the devil starts his evil very subtly most of the time. Little mistakes/decisions grow into huge sins over time. Wouldn’t it be nice if we would always ask: “what would Jesus do?”

Dear Lord it seems that the devil is at work everywhere in our world today. We were not alert and of sober mind when we let this happen. Please help us to do our part to reverse the hatred and violence and…
