Isaiah 2:4-5

He will judge between the nations

and will settle disputes for many peoples.

They will beat their swords into plowshares

and their spears into pruning hooks.

Nation will not take up sword against nation,

nor will they train for war anymore

This morning I needed to look at some explanations of these verses to help clarify some questions I had. Unfortunately I am still unclear. But one thing is beautiful and clear no matter how these verses are understood: the image of all people beating their weapons into farming tools, because they are more useful as such. It is my hope and prayer that this may come soon.

Holy God, I look forward to the time when all the nations of the world will see the futility of war because of your magnificent presence in each and every life. Amen

Isaiah 2:4-5

He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

A time will come when nations will live in peace, turning their weapons into tools for cultivation, and people will be called to walk in the light of the Lord, signifying a universal recognition of God's authority and a rejection of violence, urging people to live righteously even in the present day; essentially, a message of hope for a future…

Isaiah 2:4-5

Could this really ever be possible, that nations will never again go to war? I know I am thankful for the country I live in, and that I can walk on my street, shop in my stores, play with my grandchildren outside, and worship in my church without fear of bombs and explosions. I hope that one day people in other parts of the world can have the same, and that weapons of war are laid down for the option of peace.

Dear Lord, I pray for peace around the world, and I pray that it is your will to help the world shine in the light of that peace. Amen.

Isaiah 2:4-5

If the world accepted mediation from our Lord, this verse might possibly happen. It is a beautiful thought. But, this is not the world we live in and with the number of believers getting smaller and smaller, we, who do believe, must work all the harder for peace. A daunting task for each of us.

Prayer: Gracious God, Help me in any small way to spread your message of peace to those around me. Amen

Isaiah 2:4-5

This passage always takes me back to a specific period in our country’s history. It represents the coming together of the Jesus Movement and the anti-war movement of the early 1970s. Pastors who marched with the war protesters frequently quoted Isaiah’s vision of a future of peace. We remain saddled with the curse of war today, but we can and should still fervently pray for peace.

Prayer - Lord, our globe remains under the shadow of war. I join all Christians and others of good will pray for, work for and earstnely seek peace in our communities and the world. Amen
