John 15:12-13
"My command is this:Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."
Jesus knew what was ahead for him. He knew he would sacrifice himself for his creation. But he also lived a life that exemplified perfect love. It is not likely I will be called on to sacrifice my life for a friend. But there will be times when a sacrifice on my part will be in the best interest of someone I love. I can lay aside my own desires and comforts in order to benefit (and so, better love,) another. This is, I think, what Jesus wants me to see and learn from these verses.
Holy Lord, I am so grateful for your Word. To read the words Jesus spoke is such a miraculous blessing. May these words live in my heart. Amen
