Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
This is an interesting passage for me today. I do spend way too much time wondering what others will think of my actions. I have always been that way, as long as I can remember. I know it is the Holy Spirit which guides my good choices, though, and I do try to always remember God is seeing everything I do. Again it comes down to serving two masters. God is the only master I should be concerned about.
Heavenly Father, you are my Lord. I will try to remember at all times; I serve you, and there is no other. Amen

Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
The way that this passage is broken down is very interesting to me. In these verses, Paul says you are to work for the Lord because you know you will receive the inheritance from Him and no one else. We should be committed t…
Colossians 3:23-24 I am currently preparing a short lecture for a conference at Colby College on occupational burnout. In my research on the topic, the sense of purpose instilled by faith can have a protective effect. No matter the occupation or profession, working to please people, while commendable, is never 100% effective. There are difficult people who simply cannot be pleased despite our best effort. God, on the other hand, is always pleased at any effort that is offered with a heart of love for the Lord. Offering our best effort to please God will always provide a peace and satisfaction that can overcome even the most unreasonable and unfair complaints of unreasonable and unfair people.

These verses tell me that no matter what my profession is, as long as I do the very best I can, that I am working hard for Christ. The work I did being mother, wife and professional was a calling and as long as I did the very best I could I was being a steward to God.
Dearest Lord, you gave me the opportunity to work for you and to do the best I…
