Psalm 30:5
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
This verse is very reassuring to me. It reminds me of God’s love for his creation. He does not want us to suffer, but knows that some suffering is inevitable. God promises us that we will heal, and will know joy again. He created us as beings with feelings, and our feelings can be intense. But I know that God also created us with the natural ability to heal with time and His love. Morning follows the nighttime, like light follows the dark. God’s healing love never stops.
Holy Lord, this verse tells me a truth about your love. I am so grateful. Thank you for shining this light in my heart. Amen

Psalm 30:5
We used this verse last week when we were learning about joy. This week we are focusing on God’s character. The verse fit very nicely in both places. We may “mess up” and blame ourselves over and over, but He does not. He wants us to learn from and move forward after a mistake. What a wonderful thing he has given us us. A real gift. If only we could be the same way.
Prayer: Gracious God, I have so much to learn about you and this verse teaches us so much. Amen
Psalm 30:5
God’s favor lasts a lifetime. The phrase, “family of God” is not a pretty euphemism. It is a literal description of our relationship with God and what it should be with others. The latter takes a lot of patience, humility and forgiveness. By praising God’s character, the psalmist gives us a model to emulate.
Prayer - Steadfast God, thank You for Your favor despite my failings. Please help me curb all impulse to anger, to make it last for but a moment. Focus my energies on finding ways to show favor to others in the way You have shown me. Amen.
