A Daily Devotion for Friday April 23

Romans 8: 1-14
verse 9: You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
Seeing as I continue to struggle mightily with sin, it is hard for me to agree I am “controlled by the Spirit.“ Too often I feel more controlled by sin. As I meditate on this today, I am reminded I can choose to marinate in negative thoughts, or I can choose to turn my heart back to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The temptation to remain negative and angry is strong for me. Satan knows my weaknesses, for sure. But God knows me better.
Holy One, I will work to keep my heart a pure, clean and suitable place for you to dwell. You are always here for me to turn to, no matter the circumstances. I am truly thankful. Amen
