A Daily Devotion for Friday, April 22

Hebrews 10:19-22

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

I have been thinking about Moses and the Exodus, and how different it was for believers at that time. They couldn’t even call God by name. Although God is and was the same, God seemed (perhaps) distant in those times and not as accessible to most of the people. Jesus came closer and physically interacted with humanity. Jesus is “a new and living way opened for us.” Jesus is our renewal, our road to new and stronger faith, our God as man.

Heavenly Father, you came to us in Jesus, and you gave us all a clean fresh start. I am thankful and I am yours. Amen

Hebrews 10:19-22

Only the high priests could enter this holy room sealed from view by a curtain. At the very moment Christ died the curtain was torn from top to bottom and from then on all believers may walk into God's presence at any time (.it’s like being given your own personal key to enter a new room that was always locke). we are commanded to draw near because of what Christ has fully accomplished. There is nothing left for him to do in order to bring us into fellowship with God. There is no other barrier that must be taken down. Christ did it all and, as a result, we are called to do the on…

Hebrews 10:19-22

Jesus, the great priest, is the conduit to God that we did not have before his death. The renewal of our faith comes with knowing Jesus. Through Jesus we have gained the right to eternal life and freed from our sins. Knowing Jesus brings us closer to God the Father and enhances our faith.

Dearest Lord, you sent your son to us in order to gain forgiveness and eternal life with you.…

I think of renewal as something that is needed when I have lapsed in my attention to practicing my faith. Maybe that is why I have had a hard time writing on this subject. I don’t feel that is the case just now. I have never felt more engaged in my faith. However, there is some renewal that takes place every day when I concentrate on the word of God.

Dear Lord, thank you for listening to my scattered thoughts.…

Hebrews 10:19–22 Whenever something new comes into our lives, we often have trouble letting go of the old, thinking it was better, easier, etc. The same thing was happening to new Christians who were former Jews. They had waited for a messiah and now that he had come, they needed reminders of the close relationship they would have with God because of their new belief. No more secrecy, no rituals, just a new friend in Jesus. Prayer: GraciousGod, Even today, we need these reminders that you are by our side. I pray directly to you through Jesus. Amen

Hebrews 10:19-22

“. . . sincere heart in full assurance of faith. . .” Is having full assurance that our eternal destination is heaven the best measure of faith? This reminds me once again of the lives of Luther and Wesley. Though both were professional clergy, they struggled with the concept of full assurance until they had a spiritual awakening that solidified their faith. Satan uses our knowledge of ourselves against us, trying to convince us God could not love us. The truth is God loves us without condition if we truly put our trust in Him. When we accept God’s pardon by faith, we will be renewed by full assurance.

Prayer - God, You have shed Your mercy on…
