A daily prayer from the New England Conference
The clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today’s Prayer
Great source of love, God of our ancestors and those yet to be, we humbly come before you with a heavy heart. We see so many suffering from the Covid virus, tragedies of natural disasters, and the senseless loss of innocent lives in the name of religion, politics, color, sexual preference, and intolerance. Although our strength lies in knowing who Jesus is, our cloak of humanity wants the ability to fix, control, and to take matters into our own hands. Rebuke us we pray as you did Peter, shaking us back to acknowledging the human mind is incapable of understanding your ways - as written in Isaiah 55:8-9 “…For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways. And My thoughts than your thoughts…”. May the Holy Spirit, the advocate within, strengthen us as we take up the cross in following you. Fill us with your bread of life and living water, leaving behind the hungers of this world and gaining that of eternal life. To your glory we proudly dedicate ourselves as sheep of your fold, as we await to be reunited with the Father that created us, the Son that redeemed us, and the Holy Spirit that guides us through our journey. We offer this prayer in the name of our shepherd, our redeemer, and heart felt friend, Jesus Christ. Amen … Based on Mark 8:27-38 Pastor Joseph DeGrande, UMC of Holyoke, South Hadley, and Granby, MA
