1John 4:19
We love because he first loved us.
This is one of my favorite verses. It is so simple. But I have always read it as, “We are able to love because he first loved us.” I am frequently moved to gratitude when I experience a pure and overwhelming emotion. It is such a gift to be able to feel. Can you imagine life without this? Why did God gift us with all of these emotions? Because he loves us! We are able to love one another and able to love the world around us because God loved us enough to give us this pleasure.
Holy Lord, without your love for me, I would be an organism with no purpose and no feeling. This was not the existence you planned for me, or for any of us. We are the recipients of your love and grace. I am so thankful for this life, and ask forgiveness for any times I take your love and generosity for granted. Amen

1John 4:19
God‘s love is the greatest gift we will ever receive, love I feel I am so unworthy of, but He still loves unconditionally. He feels I am worthy. We should strive to get past the things that get between us and unconditional love. God‘s example is one to be emulated and his lesson of that love is one we should pay very, very close attention to . Love as he loves.
Precious Lord, thank you for the gift of your love. Please guide me to love unconditionally as you love a worthy sinner like me. Please guide those who are distant from you to be drawn near and feel your love. Amen

1 John 4:19
We love because he first loved us.
Just like Owen in the upper room message this morning his unconditional and undeserved love for his teacher reminds us that God’s love is a gift, we did not earn or deserve.
I wasted many years of my young life living with a vague fear that God was angry with me. It wasn’t until I received his love by faith that I was set free from this fear. I believed that God loved me in some sort of way but I did not know the amazing perfect and complete love that God has for each of us. Thankfully over the years I have…
1John 4:19
Love, in the sense of being sacrificially and unconditionally dedicated to the welfare of anyone other than oneself does not come naturally to fallen humanity. Our default position, now shamelessly promoted by the culture around us, is to focus on what the world can give (or even owes) to “number one.”After the innocence of childhood with its glimmer of such love has passed, it is only the growing realization of God’s love for us that rehabilitates what is lost as the world pushes us toward cynicism and selfishness. Love liberates us from these evils as every act of love brings us closer to its Source, each being a signpost on the path to sanctification.
