Romans 6:1-10
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin — because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
It isn’t until we leave this earthly life that we will fully leave sin behind. It’s hard to imagine an eternity waiting for us, devoid of sin. I sense that my sinful nature will be easy to leave behind, but there are other beautiful things in life I might miss. This is a mystery that is interesting to contemplate, but in itself does not draw me closer to Jesus. It is my surrender to Him which brings me peace, and assures me He will never leave me. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, and I am His. Whatever eternity holds, it will be with my God.
Holy Lord, my faith is built on your promises. As long as you are with me, I will be okay. Amen

Romans 6:1-10. People of the resurrection
As I read today's devotion, HOPE in Jesus became the theme. With that a hymn, My Hope is Built" came to mind. One of the good old songs that say what we often cannot. Of course, the chorus is perfect! "On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand." Hope in Jesus and all he teaches us is our strength.
Prayer: Gracious God. Hope in you is what drives us forward as we work in your name. AMEN
Romans 6:1-10
If we are forgiven, why don’t we just go hog wild with sin? Turning to God and having a relationship with God changes how we live and obedience is very important part of the relationship. Accepting Christ puts us in a new direction and we are no longer under the control of sin. We may stray from time to time, but thank goodness the Holy Spirit will draw us back.
Dear God, thank you for making me new and for the gift of Grace. Please help me to choose a righteous life and shield me from sin.

Romans 6:5
For if we have been united with him like this in his death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in his resurrection
This verse explains that because we are united with Christ in his death, we are also united with him in his resurrection, by promising a new life and a future eternal life. It also confirms that our old self has been crucified, setting us free from sin. Because I truly believe in Jesus there is no way I can ever sin and not care. W e need to believe God’s word more than we believe our own. …

The focus verse in this passage is verse 5, “For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.” On its surface, this appears shocking, even ridiculous. But in the context of the full passage, if we come to understand our coming to faith as a crucifiction of our old self, the illustration becomes clearer. Faith did not make me sinless, but it obliterated sin’s power over me. I recognize my sin for what it is and seek forgiveness. The power that guides my choices, actions, etc. is not sin , but the Holy Spirit. Sin still gets its little claws into…
