A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

Lord Jesus, You have called us to follow you faithfully, You have asked us to serve one another, You have invited us to pray so we may fail not in times of trial, You have taught us to denounce all forms of violence, You have demonstrated your love through suffering and enduring the shame of the cross. We were so fervent in following your footsteps, even to death, We held every good intention of protecting your ministry, We were ready to defend your teachings confidently through our understanding and interpretations, We were committed in relentless effort to preserve and uphold your holy Church. But when the hour came … it revealed our true selves … We have argued with each other, claiming one was more righteous and significant than another, We have failed to remain faithful in prayer with you for the kin-dom, We have fallen into ways of aggression and violence, creating division We have gone astray from the heart of the cross and denied you countless times, We have sought out glory bypassing the Via Dolorosa (the way of suffering) We have failed to follow you. Gracious and merciful God, In this time of repentance, Forgive us for our unfaithfulness to you, Awaken us to repent when we hear ‘spiritual crowing’ within us, Keep this prayer in our hearts: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kin-dom.” Grant us strength so we may walk steadily in the way of your cross, Guide us to find life and peace through the cross, Remind us of your promise, “today you will be with me in Paradise.” Today and always, We pray in Christ name, Amen.
