Today's Prayer
Scriptural text: Luke 4: 21-30 God of the prophets, we, your people, have journeyed by the light and toward the light. Led by a star, we found you vulnerable, poor, homely. We found you, a babe in a manger angels hovering, singing from on high, “Peace on earth, goodwill.” Now we hear you reading the prophet’s words, proclaiming good news to the poor, release of the captives restoration of sight to the blind, freedom for the oppressed; and all are amazed and speak well of these gracious words, until you spell them out, until we hear precisely who you are talking about — a widow with Elijah, a foreigner, Naaman, washed clean of leprosy. Your words enrage the people. What will become of you, Jesus of Nazareth, Prince of Peace, disturbing worshippers on the Sabbath? They wanted to hurl you off a cliff; you passed through their midst. you made your way to Capernaum in Galilee. undeterred by powers of arrogance, pride, and fear. So take us with you, Jesus. equip us for the journey — heal us of our blindness, set us free from our smallness, give us hearts of love, give us faith that we may be bearers of your Light. We pray in the name of Christ Jesus, our Savior, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit now and forever, Amen.
