A daily prayer from the New England Conference
Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today's Prayer
For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law. Nehemiah 8:9 For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body — Jews or Greeks, slaves or free — and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:13 For today’s prayer, I invite you to recollect times when you had tears or wept, literally or figuratively, upon hearing or encountering the words and the Spirit of God. Lord, Today we pray for the blessing of tears in both our eyes and our hearts. Bless us with the tears of prayer that is wholly honest and humble. Let them shed all that keep us from being fully open and vulnerable to you. Bless us with the tears of repentance that come from discovering the depth and the joy of your grace. Let them cleanse from our hearts all suffocating shame and guilt that you never created or meant for your children to carry. Bless us with the tears of compassion that flow from one suffering heart to another. Let them well up in all human hearts that no one would suffer alone. Lord, Shower the Spirit of tears on where our tears for prayer, repentance, and compassion have been dried up. Burst your heart into our tears as we remember our baptism into one body with all your people. Let our tears soften the hard places of anger and bitterness in us into the well-watered garden of grace and gratitude. Let them be the living signs of your Kin-dom where all shed same tears for one another’s dignity and liberation. Amen. By Rev. We Hyun Chang, Commonwealth East District Superintendent
