Hebrews 2:17
For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
The Lenten season is one which should very much remind us of Jesus’ human form. He lived in a fully human body, with the usual aches and pains. He also knew what was coming, and lived with that knowledge, walking toward his own physical death. This was all for us, God’s children. How can I possibly live up to that sacrifice? What can I do, to live out my life in a way which makes Jesus proud and happy?
Holy Lord, keep me on the right path, I pray. Help my heart to remain focused on what is important. Give me courage, Lord. Amen

Hebrews 2🕔
These stories of Jesus' humanness are told to remind us that he was like us. He, therefore, can understand our prayers and petitions. There is nothing we can experience that Jesus did not experience as well. This should assure doubters and those new to Christianity that there should be nothing in their pasty that Jesus cannot forgice. He does understand our human failings.
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for this reminder of how much like us Jesus was. He really understands where we are. AMEN

Hebrews 2:17
Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
This verse states that Jesus had to be made like his brothers in every respect. This means he had to experience the same human limitations, temptations, and vulnerabilities that humans face. Because Jesus experienced these same issues, , he was able to sympathize with those who are tempted, and therefore, he could be a merciful and faithful high priest. This verse was confusing for me, I did not understand how Jesus became a…
Luke 23:22-23
Like many politicians today, Pilate takes the path of least resistance and passes the issue to someone who will deliver what the crowd wants not what is right. With God’s plan moving ahead, Jesus had no chance of receiving mercy from someone of authority who would do the right thing.
Dear God, as I travel through my life guide me when I come to a fork in the road to take the path that honors you and no one else. Amen
Hebrews 2:17
The writer of Hebrews seized on a very comforting and reassuring aspect of the life and work of Jesus in this verse. There are countless human level examples of how Jesus was able to so effectively reach others. The leader or supervisor who has risen through the ranks, working in some capacity at every level of the organization will be a more knowledgeable and empathetic leader by virtue of that experience. If those one seeks to lead have a sense you have truly “been there and done that” and understand their struggles and challenges, trust comes more readily. And with that trust, a willingness to follow. As Lucado puts it, “Whatever you are facing, He knows how you…
