A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis

During these difficult days, members of the clergy class of 2021 are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today’s prayer

A prayer in the holy spirit of Acts 10: 44 – 48 The circumcised believers were astounded: the Holy Spirit had poured out even on the Gentiles. They too were speaking in the tongues of the God. Who too speaks in the tongues of angels, yet we consider them beyond the cut? Who too cries out in the name of justice, while we turn to what is comfortable? Who too sings in the hymns of heaven, as we turn down the volume? Who too loves in the habits of holiness, though we shun their embrace? Who too walks in the paths of righteousness, which we mistake for a street leading to sin? O Spirit of Wisdom, you are ever speaking anew. With each new age, each new day, each new child you are calling out in tongues we do not yet recognize. You are ever singing a new song – rarely, if ever, does it come from the center. No, you are out there on the threshold, in a stable, or just outside the tomb, teaching the Gentiles in a new meter, to a new beat, in a way we have yet to understand but need to learn. May your beloved children continue to bless us with truth, even to the point where we are moved to the margins. Give us ears to hear, a mind to understand, and a voice to echo. It is in your name, along with your holy beloved, we pray. Amen. By Ross Johnson, candidate for ordination/membership as a full elder
