Galatians 2: 16-21
Verse 16: ...know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.
Following the rules is a good thing. Many of us, myself included, are “rule-oriented” people who really are very uncomfortable breaking a rule. But the scripture reading for today reminds me rules have an origin. There is usually a purpose behind any set of rules or they become meaningless. For me as a Christian Jesus is “the rest of the story”. Belief in Christ puts a new frame around “rules” for life and living. It is my belief in Christ which will save me. Following Jewish law will not save me, although those laws certainly had/have a place and a purpose. Belief in Christ is my salvation.
Holy One, Help me to hold onto Christ. May my faith never falter. Amen

Galatians 2: 16-21 Verses 16: 19-20 Jesus loved me on the cross, loved me in the manager in Bethlehem, loved me even before the world was created. There has never been a time when Jesus did not love his people. Did the law ever love me, did the law ever sacrifice itself for me, did the law ever die for me. On the contrary it accuses me , it frightens me, it drives me crazy. Somebody else saved me from the law, from sin and death unto eternal life. That someone is the son of God to whom I will give praise and glory forever, I am a woman who loves Jesus Christ, because he loved me when…
Galatians 2:20 - “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Pastor Gil occasionally refers to having a life verse and he has told us his many times (along with his dozens of “favorite” verses)😆 Galatians 2:20 has been my life verse for nearly 40 years. To me, it encapsulates the Gospel and the freedom I gain in surrender to Christ. I cannot imagine living in this world in any other way than by faith.
