Jeremiah 29:10-14

This is what the LORD says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

These passages remind me that even when we are brought into a dark place, God is there with us, and His will is being done. God knows our tribulations before they even happen, just like when the Israelites were taken into Babylon. God let the Israelites know that not only would he bring them out of Babylon, but he would accompany them to Babylon, and be with them there. He would then bring them home, and remain their faithful and loving God throughout.

Holy Lord, help me to know, without a doubt, that you will never leave me on my own. Your Word in scripture reminds me of this, over and over. I am thankful. Amen

Jeremiah 29:10-14. Deuteronomy 31:6

People often ask God to send them a sign that he heard their prayer. I have a friend who believes that every red cardinal she sees is her mother letting her know she is happy in heaven. It is something she needs to know and prays about it often. Today’s author didn’t ask for a sign, but there it was anyway. He sensed much comfort in that small wooden cross he found that day. He could touch it in his pocket for reassurance. I think the most wonderful part of his story was that he eventually returned the cross to where he found it so another person might need it and find it. We kno…

Jeremiah 29:10-14/Deuteronomy 31:6

God’s overarching promise is to always be there for us, not as a wish-granting genie, but as a stable rock, a fortress in which we can find safety and peace. The promise is made tangible in Jesus who walked among us and eternal in His Resurrection and unloosing of the Holy Spirit for all people at all times and in all places.

Prayer - Protector God, thank You for Your unfailing promise to never leave nor forsake us. Amen
