Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths

for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk

through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the LORD

forever.

Matthew 6:26

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?“

And the following verse in Matthew 6 is also fitting here: “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”. Jesus tells us over and over to share our burdens with Him, to leave worry behind, and to trust in Him. The story in today’s UR devotion reminds me of what we have been sharing recently in our group- keeping our eyes and ears and hearts open for the path God is putting before us, answering our prayers in a new way. Today’s writer was too anxious to read, and then was reminded of a song from her childhood which repeated the words of Psalm 23. Singing and praying these words brought her peace. God is listening, and will show us a way.

Holy Lord, surely goodness and mercy will follow me all of the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen

Psalm 23/Matthew 6:26

These two Scripture selections this morning are a perfect way to begin the week. I received the news Friday that the Board of Ordained Ministry declined to endorse my ordination. These readings offer the assurance that God continues to walk with, comfort, spiritually feed and anoint me for the ministry tasks I am assigned.

Prayer - Thank You, God for Your presence in all circumstances. Please show me the way, and I will follow. Amen
