Job 6:14
"Anyone who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty."
Job is such a difficult book to understand for me, and when I read it, I feel like I am being pitched back and forth between Job and his friends. What could his friends have said or done to be more helpful? In any event, Job does not receive their "advice" too well. Sometimes kindness is the most powerful part of active friendship- more powerful than unsolicited advice, anyway. Just being with Job, and staying by his side may be the model for us.
Holy Lord, help me to be a good friend. Not a friend full of advice and "better ideas" but a friend full of patience and love. Amen

Job 6:14 What are friends for? If we cannot muster kindness for our friends then how are we to “love our enemies“? This short verse makes it plain that failure in this simplest of tasks puts us on the wrong footing with God. Without kindness friendship would be impossible. Kind friends are secure shelter in the storms of life and a blessing from God. We must strive to be that type of friend.
Prayer - God of friendship, make be to be the friend that can be counted upon to provide kindness at all times to those who call me friend. Amen

He knows only how much it hurts when he loses possessions, servants, and children all in a day, and then develops a painful skin disease. His friends tell him he has become nothing. Focusing on fixing Job’s problems they hav…
