A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, March 30

Hebrews 13:16

And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

We talk a lot about no longer needing to offer sacrifices for our sins. But the kind of sacrifice mentioned in this verse from Hebrews is altogether different. Any time we give something to another person, or give time or energy to another, it is a small sacrifice. We make sacrifices for those we love. Sacrifices can go a long way toward repairing relationships.

Father God, Help me to freely sacrifice my time and energy for others. This shows my love for them and brings us closer to each other and to you. Amen

Hebrews 13:16

I do not have a lot of money, homes, or cars. I do know what it means to sacrifice for others. I have been told that I am generous to a fault. I share all that I can with people I know I can help. I don’t need to travel our country to sacrifice and share with people who need it. I try to get the job done in a smaller area, such as our church, community and of course family. I am so grateful for all the blessings in my life and it gives me pleasure to help and share with anyone. I know that this is pleasing to god….

Lord, thank you for all…

Hebrews 13: 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

The church gives us many ways to share our money, clothes, unwanted items for rummage sales, time, etc. The challenge is to share until it feels like a sacrifice. I’m not sure I do that very often. I usually give what I don’t need and feel good about it. I think of the early church members who sold their belongings to share with neighbors.

Dear Lord I am thankful that I want to share but I would need a huge push from you to really sacrifice in my giving. You gave me the gift of being responsible to…

Hebrews 13: 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Sharing has always been easy for me. I can share my food and drink and love with everyone. What I have trouble sharing is my belief in God. I can sometimes share how I feel about God and what he has done for me with certain relatives, but I fall short in sharing God verbally with others. So, I attempt to share God with a smile, a hello or a good deed and hope that God understands my standoff-ness and forgives me.

Dearest Lord, I have not gotten to the place of sharing that I know you would…

Hebrews 13:16

As I ponder this verse, I do not think it irreverent to think God is easily pleased. We do not have to be missionaries in a foreign land, evangelists who speak to hundreds of thousands of people a year or founders of massive charity programs. God is pleased when we simply do good and share with others. Anyone can do this and when done in God’s name these humble acts bring God pleasure.

Prayer - Sharing God, guide my heart to always be on the lookout for opportunities to do good and share with others. I am richly blessed when I please You. Amen

Hebrews 13:16 And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God. Throughout the new testament there are instructions to us about sharing what we have with others. What we have is often not fully explained. We often think of money and food and clothing. We should add to that list, our time and talents. We need not to be rich in possessions to do good. Giving our time to sit with the sick or sharing our organizational skills to help our church or a nonprofit are equally important. Telephone calls and cards and note to others are sharing in its simplest form. What I like best about this verse is tha…
