A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, July 10

Matthew 24:42-44

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

This passage reminds me I must live every day as a faithful Christian. (This is not like a diet which I will start tomorrow.) I must be ready at any and every moment. If Christ were to come today, would I have things on my “to do” list He would rather have seen “done”? This invites me to take inventory and be certain I am where I need to be.

Holy Lord, you will send your Son again to create your Kingdom anew. I do not begin to understand that, and do not know the “when.” But I will try to live out my life in a way that pleases you, every day. I pray to hear the words, “Well done”. Amen

Matthew 24:42-44

Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

The second coming of the lord is as real as anything around us today. One of the most important things we should do as Christians is to  live in readiness for this. That t we should always be prepared for His return,…

Matthew 24:42-44

To be prepared for Christ’s second coming, we must be doing the Lord’s work while we wait. If we act as he wishes, do as he wishes, and behave as Christ-like as we can then it won’t matter when he comes, we will be ready. It sounds so easy, but it isn’t. This preparedness leaves no time to be lazy, no time to be judging others, and no time for selfish thoughts. I could list more, but I’m sure you understand.

Prayer: Gracious God, I will try to always be prepared and ask for your help when I am not. Amen
