Isaiah 58:9b-10
“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.“
This entire chapter of Isaiah is awesome! God reminds the people, through Isaiah, that doing the right things on some days is not enough. God explains that the fasting is not the end point- the fasting represents putting oneself in a position and mindset of service to others: sharing food with the hungry, fighting injustices and providing shelter to those in need. I don’t think God demands that we fast in order to reach this mindset, but we can reach it in other ways, through prayer and worship. God is watching how we treat others, not how much we eat. When we live this “right” life, then our light can shine.
Holy Lord, again your Word speaks to me in a new way. Help me to stay on this path, and remember your words. Amen

Isaiah 58:9b – 10
Giving is loving and loving is essential. We should help without judgment, we should help without expectation of accolade, and we should help with love in our hearts…with this light will shine.
Heavenly Father, guide me in seeking opportunities to help those in need and help me to shine your light. Amen.
Isaiah 58:9-10
These verses are especially relevant today. We are being reminded that no matter what is going on around us, our job is to help others in anyway we can. We could go on social media and complain and grumble about things,or,we could write and send cards to those who need to,know someone cares. That’s how to make your light shine.
Prayer: Gracious God, Things around us seem dark and ominous so we need to show kindness, charity, and justice. AMEN

Isaiah 58:9-10
Then when you call, the Lord will answer. ‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.
Remove the heavy yoke of oppression. Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors! Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noonday.
These verses emphasize the importance of our faith, as we activity show compassion and justice towards others, not just outward religious practices, like being seen in church on Sunday, or speaking idle words that do nothing. I have to remember I cannot be saved with idle deeds without total faith in God. These verses say what they mea…
Isaiah 58:9b-10
The “pointing finger and malicious talk” seems to surround us all the time these days. In the mad rush to place blame, malign motives and wallow in perpetual offense at anything that challenges our thinking, service to those in need is neglected and our situation worsens. There is cold comfort in seeing the world of Isaiah was so similar to that in which we live today. Despite all our “progress,” how can it be that our world has learned so little over thousands of years regarding how to treat one another. Believers in 2025 must focus on trying to be part of the solution rather than aligning ourselves with one extreme or another and thus remaining part of…
