Proverbs 3:9-10

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;

then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Tom and I are reading a book called "Discovering God through the Arts". In it, the author points out that even in very early times, holy spaces were often decorated beautifully. This was to honor God, to show love and respect, and to acknowledge God's gift of beauty. There are many who find the lavish architecture and gilded interiors to be wasteful and gaudy. But if we look at these buildings as gifts to honor God, they are so beautiful.

Holy Lord, there are many ways I can honor you, and one of them is to recognize the efforts of those who came before me. If I could build a big beautiful building, it would be to honor you, and I would make it beautiful. May my life honor you, today, tomorrow, and every day. Amen

Ephesians 6:1-4

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

This scripture gives instructions for children to obey their parents, and for parents to be careful in how they raise their children. Children who learn respect for proper authority will have a better chance at success in life. Obedience to parents is the morally right way to behave. Obedience to parents is training for…

Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

These verses made me think of the times when I was a young teenager working on my cousin’s farms in Canada. I learned a lot from seeing how these farm families responded to difficulties and how they relied on God for there very lives. We read the bible every day while sitting at the breakfast table. If the weather was bad or equipment broke or they lost money in some way, their attitude never changed. Life was in God’s hands – they honored him in that way.

Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

This passage tells me to honor God. It is my giving honor to His name with whatever means I have. I can honor God with money, words, actions and love. In this way I become wealthy in my own right by pleasing Him who gave me so very much.

Dearest Lord, I thank you for all you have given to me to share with You and all I encounter. I honor you in prayer and the gifts I can share with You and all I meet. In…

Proverbs 3:9–10 All last week we wrote about generosity. Now that generosity is defined for us. It is our way to honor God by using our wealth, monetary gifts, and our time and talents. The writer continues, however, to assure us that when we do, we need not worry about our needs. God will provide. Prayer: gracious God, thank you for this assurance of provision. Amen

Proverbs 3:9-10

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

We can put God first in every area of our life by giving God our first thoughts in the morning. Talk to him about where we want to be each day, starting today. When we give our first fruits offering, we are planting a seed , which honors God. There is a greater blessing that awaits us in honoring God. It all begins with obedience… First fruits simply means giving our best to God. It means sacrificing something that costs us a little.…
