Proverbs 16:9
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
This is such a great verse for me to focus on right now. Tom and I have made a lot of plans for our time away; I would be foolish to think that everything should or will work out exactly as planned. But God has his own plans for us. God gives us free will, and wants us to seek him so that our choices will be as close to His perfect will as they can be. God also sends the Holy Spirit to get our attention. I believe that the more watchful and receptive we are to these nudges, the more we will see God leading our way.
Holy Lord, help me to be aware when you need me to pay attention. Show me the way to live out your will. Help me to see the good in what does not go as planned. Amen

As it is said, “we make plans and then life happens”… one of my very favorite literary figures is Anne Shirley in the Anne of Green Gables series and one of my favorite quotes of hers is:
“When I left Queen’s, my life seemed stretched out before me like a straight road. I thought I could see along it for many a milestone. Now there is a bend in it. I don’t know what lies around the bend but I’m going to believe that the best does.”

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.-
The upper room story this morning certainly exemplifies the above scripture.
We may make future plans and purpose in our hearts and how to achieve these desired goals, but God is the One Who directs our path. He is the One Who establishes the steps we take. God’s ability to direct our lives is forever out of our own ability. I never want to be afraid of God’s power and his plans for my life because he could very well use his power to discourage me. Proverbs 16:9 The paraphrase of this verse I hear often is, “Man plans, God laughs.” There are always curveballs in even the best thought out plans. In a world with so many moving parts, it is amazing how much God guides our steps. Travel from Contoocook to St. Jean Pied du Port in France was virtually flawless. Our day and night in St. Jean featured only a few moments of disorientation finding our hotel, but we found it (or it found us) and we slept almost 12 hours.
