1 Thessalonians 5: 19-22
Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.
We need the Holy Spirit to help us to know what is good and what is evil. It is not always that easy to tell. I have always had a very active conscience. Sometimes overactive, really. But along with that is a gut level sense of whether I am doing the right thing. I have always felt this was the Holy Spirit letting me know if I was about to screw up. But it is more difficult to see through others’ motives. Prayer and guidance from God will help us to know what is important for us to know.
Holy Lord, help me to keep on the path you have set for me. Help me to be led by what is good, and to set aside what is evil. With you, I can do anything. Amen

The ability to discern is very useful. It can help us with the decision-making process as we live our lives in Christ. Sometimes, making decisions we are faced with options with only a slight difference between them. We are given free will and the grace to choose the right option. I will always attempt to pick the right one.
Dearest Lord, always give me the grace to make the right choices. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

1 Thessalonians 5: 19-22
Do not put out the spirit’s fire. Do not treat prophecies with contempt. test everything; hold fast to what is good. Avoid every kind of evil.
Here again Paul continues to encourage us. To test and prove all things that might be questionable and then hold on to the ones that are good. To be in contempt of something is to reject, disregard, or treat it as if it has no value. We should never despise true prophecies because they are messages from God affirming His Word. As Believers we have the Holy Spirit, which we received the moment we accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior. It is a promise from Go…
1 Thessalonians 5: 19-22
“Do not quench the Spirit.” The Holy Spirit is our lifeline in a hostile environment. I remember being shocked when I was a pre-teen by a scene in the James Bond film, “You Only Live Twice.“ In this scene an astronaut was out of the capsule doing a space walk when a much larger spacecraft opened up its nose cone and enveloped the smaller capsule. As the nose cone closed it cut through the astronaut’s lifeline and he floated out into the abyss of space. To this day that is a horrific image to me. To be a Christian is not to be an automaton. Like all humankind we are blessed with free will, but the…
