A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, January 30

Proverbs 16:7

When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone's way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them.

There are some people who are very easy to be in conflict with, and some who are nearly impossible to even imagine in a conflict. I believe this proverb is telling me to walk with God. With God in my "corner", I will have all the help I need. I will be less likely to engage in conflicts, and hopefully others will respond positively to God's peace, being less likely to initiate a conflict with me.

Holy Lord, help me to always walk with you. When I notice myself entering into a conflict, I will call on your Holy Spirit to guide me. Amen

Proverbs 16:7

I think this addresses the act of understanding and the found peace that one finds… I worried I did everything wrong and then I remembered prayer, ask for help and guidance and then what do you know peace came over me as it does God causes the even the enemies and even our own causes of getting in the way to know the peace that passes all understand,

Dear lord Help me to get out of the way! Help me to find your peace not just for me but for my enemies! Amen

Proverbs 16:7

God is the only person we should be trying to please by living as He would wish. If this doesn’t please our enemies, that is their loss. I wish this were how the world works, but it does t seem to go that way. That should not to change us, however, beacuase it is God we please not our enemies.

Prayer: Gracious God, sometimes I wish your words were actually how the world behaved. Amen

Proverbs 16:7

I was surprised at my unfamiliarity with this very encouraging verse. It reminds me I cannot change anyone else, but the peace of God can change me. If I am open to the Spirit’s work in me, God’s peace should radiate in such a way as to persuade even those who may oppose me to compromise. In the current environment of contentiousness, especially within Methodism, these are words the angry voices on both sides of the divide should heed.

Prayer - Precious Lord, the comfort and security of peace is so elusive. Peace between individuals, people groups and even nations is disrupted by those who resist Your call to unselfish co-existence. Make each one of us confident and…
