1John 5:13-15
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Today we again read scripture verses that tell us we will have the answers to our prayers if we only ask. We know from our own experience this is not how things seem to go. Sometimes our prayers are answered in a way that we can recognize. Many times, there is no noticeable evidence of what we have prayed for. An important factor is God’s will/His plan. If our prayers are not in line with that, we are not likely to see answers to our prayers. We also know that our prayers are often answered in unexpected ways, and on an unexpected timeline. If we are praying for another individual, we must remember that they are one of God’s children, they have free will and they are making decisions of their own each and every day.
Lord God, help me to remain faithful and to remain in communion with you. Whether I see and feel your work and your answers, or I feel lost and unheard, I always know you are with me. Help me to grow closer to you. Amen

1 John 5:13-15. God's Word
I love the last sentence of today's devotion--"Imagine the possibilities if we all opened our hearts and minds to God's promises and miracles."
When we pray for a mircle, we must know that God will answer--maybe not the way we wished, or when we wished, but that doesn't mean he hasn't heard us. That's important to remember. When my prayer for a miracle didn't happen as I hoped, I had my doubts, but I shouldn't have. Other kinds of miracles did happen--just not what, when, or how I expected.
Prayer: Gracious God, help me keep my heart and mind open to all you offer each of us. AMEN
1 John 5:13-15
God’s promise provides assurance not worry. I need to live in confidence not doubt. I need to speak to God freely, He listens to me. I must pray in a way that honors Him and trust Him, it’s not what I want, it’s what God wants and sometimes that can be difficult, the answers…yes, no, wait. Whatever the answers are they are given with love.
Heavenly Father, I don’t have to worry, I know I am Yours. Please help me to pray in a way that honors Your plan, please teach me to trust you even when I can’t see Your answer. Please teach me confidence over fear. Amen

Todays’s Reading 1 John 5:13-15
1 John 5:15
And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
Here are three of the most important actions God wants: Love God (with all your heart, soul, and mind), Love your Neighbor (treating others with justice, kindness, and mercy), and Share the Gospel. We know when we pray it has to be part of God’s will. And if it is , we know that we have the request we asked for. We also know examples of God’s will would be reading the Bible to understand His character…
1John 5:13-15
I am currently working my way through Dallas Willard’s The Divine Conspiracy. It is a very detailed look at Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Regarding prayer, Willard guides the reader through the issues with prayer we all have: not getting what we ask for, prayer as conversation, not ritual, persisting in prayer even if apparently unanswered, learning to wait on God and “not leaping ahead and taking things into our own hands,” being willing to pray for things we are tempted to think are beneath the dignity of God. The three traditional spiritual practices of Lent are prayer, almsgiving and fasting. These 40 days are a perfect time to focus on building a stronger prayer life. Our Upper…
