Galatians 6:2
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
With this verse we are reminded we always have a way to give to others. It may not take any money, or more than a moment of time. A smile, a door held open, a hug, a listening ear may be just the right thing when the Spirit moves us to think of others and their burdens.
Holy Father, help me to see opportunities to lighten another’s load. Amen

Galatians 6:2 Such a short verse, but couldn’t be more clear. He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother, was a cool song in 1970. The lyrics encouraged people to help others travel the long road with many a winding turn. The authors go on to write that they are burdened with sadness, that everyone’s heart isn’t filled with the gladness of love for one another. How true, 50 years later. The song pleaded with people to care for their brothers and sisters. It is still the same today, we honor God’s command to carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2). The lesson I get today is I am not required…
Galatians 6: 2
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.
I am finding out that when I find that people I know have been given a heavy burden, the first thing I now think about is praying for them. I may have always done this, but I now recognize this as my first reaction. When I ask myself how this person can bear all that they are going through, I feel quite helpless. What I now know is praying for them is the best thing I can do. I cannot always see the results of my prayers, but I know that they are effective. God is in control and will watch…
Galatians 6:2
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Barbara and I volunteered at a therapeutic riding stable for several years, until I could no longer keep up with the horse. It was as therapeutic for us as for the children. Helping others is not usually a burden but it may be a very big burden lifted off of them.
Lord give me direction toward doing for others at this time in my life. I may not have the physical capacity I once had, but you will show me the way. Amen.
Galatians 6:2
We are often so consumed with our own perceived burdens that burden bearing for others seems an unreasonable task. Nevertheless this is exactly what Jesus taught. What may be lost in our hesitancy is confidence in the power of prayer in burden bearing. I may not be able to pay someone else’s financial debts, restore health or bring back a deceased loved one, but I can and should be in prayer for these burdens. Taken seriously, intercessory prayer is hard work, but Oswald Chambers makes an important observation.
”if you spend yourself out physically, you become exhausted; but spend yourself spiritually, and you get more strength.”
In obeying the edict, “pray without ceasing,” we help bear each other’s…
Galatians 6:2. Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the laws of Christ. The most important law of Christ is to love him and our neighbor as much as we love ourselves. Paul is reminding us, again, of the importance of caring for one another. How do we do that? It is really very simple. Choose to be kind, to show mercy, to be generous, to listen, and most important to pray for one another. During Covid this winter many of us spent time reaching out to others: sending cards and letters, calling people, and praying for those around us. As a body of Christ – the church – we were following Christ’s law. Prayer: Gracious God give me th…
