John 4:4-14
Now he had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.
When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
“Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The story of the woman at the well is definitely a favorite of many Christians. I know it is a favorite of mine. It is partly the simplicity and directness of Jesus’ interaction with the woman. He puts her off-balance by simply asking for water, knowing she was not expecting him to interact with her at all. He tells her many things about herself that a stranger would have no reason to know. Her openness to Christ and her willingness to share with others changed lives, including hers. Pondering what came before and after this interaction is so rich! (The series The Chosen gives us one way to imagine this.) One may wonder in their own life; what life or lives could be changed if I were to share my own divine interactions. They do happen from time to time- do we share them? Do we feel they are too personal, or just for us?
Holy Lord, when you come close and speak to me, I will try harder to consider sharing this with others. We are meant to share our faith, and not to hoard our experiences with you. I am so thankful for your willingness to answer when I call out to you. I love you, Lord Jesus. Amen

John 4:4-14
Would’ve always strikes me when I read about the woman at the well is that Jesus disregard what was “politically correct” at that time. He was a Jew, she was a Samaritan, he a man, she a woman. Regardless, he engages with her to offer the living water, eternal life, eternal life in a lasting relationship with God. This is Water that will satisfy forever.
Like God shows us we should love everyone, even the ones that are avoided and judged by others. Truth be known,, we are likely avoided and or judged by someone out there…

John 4:4-14 Living Water
Today's story from John 4 of the Samaritan woman meeting Jesus is a favorite of mine. I tell this story to my nursing home ladies. The best part of the story for me is how her circumtances change from beginning to the end of the story. She is so moved by Jesus words, she seems to forget she is a shunned woman in her village. She runs and tell everyone she sees about Jeus and they listen to her--a person they did not like--and they run to hear him first hand. She goes from an outsider in her own community to probably the first evangelist! And a woman no less! What an amazing transformation.

LIVING WATER
( Focus: to worship God Wholeheartedly
Today’s Reading John 4:4-14 (no matter our background we are all loved by God)woman at the well
John 4:14
But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The story of the woman at the well teaches us that God loves us in spite of our broken lives . God values us enough to actively seek us, to welcome us to intimacy, and to rejoice in our worship. As a result of Jesus’ conversation, only a person like the Samaritan woman,…
John 4:4-14
Jesus gives us a powerful model for sharing the Good News. He did not thunder condemnation or bury the woman in a blizzard of systematic theology. Jesus met her where she was. He was gentle, but direct. When she challenged Him, He remained calm and focused on the message He had for her. While we may not win all people with this approach, we can surely win some. Transformation takes place one heart at a time and a personal connection must be established to initiate the process.
Prayer - Jesus, Living Water, please guide my words and deeds such that they may help others come to know You are the Way, the Truth and the Life. Amen
