Deuteronomy 13:1-3
If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, "let us follow other gods" (gods you have not known)" and let us worship them," you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Moses warns of false prophets. Interestingly, it is not the dreaming which makes the prophet false, it is the content of their message. In other words, the act of dreaming is not described as a false way to communicate with God. But dreams can be easily misinterpreted or mis-represented, because they are so private. And false prophets can lie. I think if God wants to communicate with us through a dream, the content will be consistent with God's Word. And it takes prayer and discernment to interpret the truths in any of our lives, whether they be dreams, "coincidences" or any other events which lead us to wonder. Food for thought.
Father God, you have the power to communicate with us any way you choose. Help me to notice these communications, and to pray for further understanding. I long to be closer to you. Amen

Deuteronomy 13: one – three Moses warning about “false “prophets is as timely today as it was for his generation. There are groups that seem Christian and legitimate, but they really worship wealth and money. If we stay close to scripture, we will see the truth. Our Bibles are our guide to the truth of right living and worshiping our one true God. Prayer: gracious God, may I always turn to your word for theTruth in this confusing world. Amen
Deuteronomy 13:1-3 1 If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, 2 and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, "Let us follow other gods" (gods you have not known) "and let us worship them," 3 you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer.
These dreamers of old appear to be just that dreamers. They conjure up a new god and have followers believe in them. This is not a dream of a true God. God gave us life and it is God the Almighty that we should worship and only Him. These false prophets brought these gods…

I’ve never believed in dreams having any validity. At best, I think a dream may reflect something that is on my mind, but it is my thinking, not some mysterious revelation.
Dear Lord, if you want to put something into my head through a dream, then I would gladly try to understand it. Otherwise, I wish you would block most of the dreams that I have. Thank you. Amen.
Deuteronomy 13:1-3
“If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
In this day and age why do people get so easily swayed from what is right and proper? And how can people be kept from being…
Deuteronomy 13:1-3
The essential point of this short lesson is that Scripture is the anchor and final arbiter of our beliefs. I am reminded of what has been called the “Methodist Quadrilateral“ - Scripture, Tradition, Experience and Reason. As important as the other three may be, any aspect of the three that contradicts Scripture must be rejected. Dreams are part of our human experience, but like all our experiences, not every dream is of God. Becky is spot on in citing prayer and discernment to sort these things out and the standard we must use in that process is the word of God.
Prayer - All-seeing God, even my dreams are known to You. Grant me the wisdom to sort…
