A Daily Devotion for Thursday, November 18

Deuteronomy 31:6

”Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

These words remind us our faith in God is what makes us strong. When we know God has our back, we can leave fear behind us. Sometimes I have to remind myself of my ultimate, eternal future. When I keep my eyes on that goal, fear should be put aside. (Admittedly, easier said than done.)

Lord, help me to be strong in my faith and full of courage. I long to be in step with your desires for me, and to be living the life you planned for me. Amen

Deuteronomy 31: 6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

God is challenging us to be strong and courageous, but also told us that he would be with us always. He is with us to comfort, support and help us no matter what we do. He sent us the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us and to support and help us on this journey. What a great gift of strength and grace this is for those who put their trust in him.

Dearest Lord, you challenge us so that we don’t become too complacent. You challenge m…

Deuteronomy 31:6

The exhortation to be strong and courageous appears repeatedly in Scripture. That God is the basis for that strength and courage underlies this message. There must be a reason this is put before readers of the Word so often. The constant reminder that we have no greater strength and courage than when we place our trust in God is made clear and serves as an encouragement, especially when staring down difficult situations. Think of “encouragement” as as verb, that is the act of bestowing courage. This is God working in our lives as people of faith.

Prayer - God of strength and courage, I am thankful for the small portion of Your power You provide for me each…

Deuteronomy 31:6 There are those words again – “do not be afraid.” Moses certainly knew that his people were afraid. They were so near home, but not a home they knew. The elders had died during the trip and everything in the future was unknown to them. But just like his words to Joshua in the next verse, he reminded them that their God was going before them and would lead them safely home. Reminders are so important. That’s what I like best about this group. Every morning we read, reflect, and write about God. Prayer gracious God: how blessed we are to be in your word each day. We need your constant guidance for strength. Amen

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Just imagine the fear that the Israelites encountered when they realized that Moses was about to die. Moses prepared the people for his departure and appointed a new leader Joshua. The lord told Moses he himself would cross over ahead of them. Thus this message to the people. The God of Israel challenged His people to be strong and very courageous, but He also told them never to fear or to tremble with fright and reassured them that He would be with them always, to lead and to comfort, to support…
