A Daily Devotion for Thursday, November 13

Read also 2 Chronicles 24:1-14

1Peter 5:10

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

It is not easy growing old. It is a privilege, of course, but not always easy. Some have a rougher time than others. At some point the waiting ends, and for those of us who are believers, we begin a new life, unimaginable to us now- a new life with no infirmities , no pain and no tears. A very close friend is near to losing both of her aging parents right now, and I know what she is going through. I pray to God today that He be by her side through this difficult time. Keep her safe, and hold her close so that she feels comforted. Amen

2 Chronicles 24:1-14. 1 Peter 5:10. Restore me, Lord

To me, to restore is to make something like new again. I don't often think of myself as being restored. I imagine there are times in everyone's journey that some restoration is needed. If and when needed, I will try to remember to turn to you for help with that restoration. It is not something we can do by ourselves. Your words and your commandments will show us the way.

Prayer: Gracious God, whenever you think it is necessary, turn me around and restore me so I may do what you need me to do. AMEN

1 Peter 5:10

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

If I have placed my trust in Jesus, can I be confident  that one day I  will enter into eternal glory. Jesus has paid the price. He is the means. We are saved only because of the kindness of God. I need this hope for future glory, but I also need something for today’s struggles. I need to know that what I’m going through is changing me. I need solid affirmation that if…

2 Chronicles 24:1-14 / 1Peter 5:10

I can see the comparison of the rebuilding of the temple to the rebuilding of my spiritual life. There have been times when my spiritual life has fallen into disrepair, but through the grace of God I have been restored. Sometimes the repairs have been minor and, regretfully, some have been major. Just like a house with “good bones”, I have, through the strong people in my life, been given those strong bones and although repairs may be necessary, “my house” stands strong on the foundation of Jesus Christ.

Dear God, thank You for always being there for me and making all the repairs necessary to restore my faith when I fall into disrepair.…

2 Chronicles 24:1-14/1Peter 5:10

The history of the temple of ancient Israel mirrors our life on earth. The tent of meeting was replaced by Solomon’s resplendent temple. It fell into disrepair from neglect and was restored by Joash. The temple was destroyed by the Babylonians but rebuilt after the exile under the leadership of Nehemiah and Ezra. This temple was destroyed by the Romans but a new one was was built by, of all people, Herod. We too go through our various stages of life with its ups and downs, victories and defeats. But as Peter declares, all becomes glory after all the trials for all who have placed their trust in God who will restore and make us strong,…
