Matthew 28:20
“…and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Jesus has promised us he will not leave us. I have had many nights of going to bed looking forward to praying about what is on my mind, because I know Jesus is there, ready to hear me. The disciples had no experience with this kind of communion with God until Jesus came along, and then they had to take some time to figure it out. Before Jesus, God was certainly with the people, but not so close and accessible. They prayed and followed God’s laws, but the friendship aspect was not so clear as it is now. It is a shame that the writer of today’s devotion did not know Christ as a child. They would not have felt so lonely.
Holy Lord, “What a friend we have in Jesus!” I am thankful beyond words. Amen

Matthew 28:20
I found The Upper Room writer’s narrative today very relatable. My travels while I was in the Navy brought about many painful goodbyes. Being realistic, I knew it was highly likely I would never see those friends again. After I discharged
from active duty, I did something I said I would never do, I fell in love with and married a sailor….and so the goodbyes began… again. The one constant in all the years that we traveled was having God by my side. My relationship with God may have waned from time to time, but I can tell you that during those goodbyes, I felt His presence, His hand on my shoulder, letting me know that as …
John 15:12-17. and Matthew 29:30
Of course, I'm reminded of that wonderful hymn, "What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
I have a friend who had a career in Christian Education. I love it when she sat down with the children and told them that they could talk to God anytime. No need to kneel, bow your head, or hold your hands a certain way. And no need to wait until bedtime. All you had to do was talk to him as if he were sitting beside you. Then she would demonstrate how she talked with God. I thought it was wonderfu…
Matthew 28:20
This promise from Jesus is a source of joy and confidence. The promise is fulfilled in the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is important to bear in mind the context of this promise. It is the exclamation point on the Great Commission. In sharing our faith we can be certain that Jesus is with us. Sharing faith comes in many forms and does not require any special training or skills. Committed faith radiates off of a believer like the heat of the sun, whether it be in kind words, thoughtful actions or simply being present and willing to listen. In all these things Jesus is with us, even to the very end of the…
