Matthew 5:1-9
Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. He said:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.”
I Corinthians 1:4
(God) who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
The writer found comfort in the Godly fellowship of her new church family. Today I am thinking of the many other places God sends his comforting Spirit to minister to His people. How about grief support groups, Al-Anon, Alzheimer’s caregiver support groups, support groups for those with cancer? There are so many groups organized to provide support and hope for those going through a rough time. Even though a group may not name God or invite his Holy Spirit into the group, He is always there for us, and so will be with us in that gathering. All good and beautiful things come from God. And he leads us to what we need.
Holy Lord, you lead us to what we need, to people who can help us to see your will more clearly. Help me to be open and willing to support and to be supported, knowing that all of my help comes from you. Amen

Over twenty years ago now, his wife died of cancer, leaving him with three sons under the age of 12. He was at a total loss as to what the future would hold for his boys and himself. He went to his pastor to talk things out and the…
