2 Corinthians 6:18
And, “I will be a Father to you , and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
The writer of the devotion today in The Upper Room does not share with us the events or reasons behind his tears. We only know that he turned to God. And we don’t know his age. But he always knew God was there, even if he mistakenly felt unworthy. So many parents bring their children to church until the children find other things they want to do more. We may feel that as parents we have somehow failed when our children no longer come to church or do not hold the same beliefs that we hold. But this story, along with the scripture, points out that these children are no less children of God. God waits for them. And, because we brought them to church and introduced them to the presence of God, they know He is accessible to them. He is here, in this world, waiting for them.
Holy Lord, hold my children close, I pray. Soften their hearts that they may fully enter into faith in you. You can send your Spirit to wake them up and bring them closer to you. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Romans 8:35-39
2Corinthians 6:18.
As I read the writer's story today, I realized what will be missing for many young people as they grow into adulthood. For so many, the soccer field, and the baseball diamond and all the other sports venues have taken the place of Sunday School. The writer went to Sunday School and knew about God and knew who to turn to when all seemed lost. Who are today's lost youth going to turn to. Who will tell them that they are one of God's children and that he loves them?
Prayer: Gracious God, I worry about our sports generation young people and wonder how will they ever find you. AMEM
2 Corinthians 6:18
I think we all drift away from time to time. I know I certainly have over the years. The focus and strength of my faith and the effort I put into following Christ and studying the Word has waxed and wained, sometimes it has been very minimal. I can honestly say I don’t think it was ever nonexistent though. Fortunately, I was blessed to have parents that planted deep seeds of faith. I came to know that it was very important to them that they raise their children in church and worship was a priority. They set an example by their involvement in various facets of their church. I have come a long way with my relationshi…

Romans 8:38-39
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Corinthians 6:18
And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”
I want to understand the writer this morning, only in a very different way. Growing up I always
wanted to be close to God, not run away from him.…
2 Corinthians 6:18
This verse is the essence of prevenient grace, the grace that goes before, the grace that can capture a heart at any time under any circumstances. When one comes to realize the depth and permanence of God’s love, the impact of that grace is the open door to faith. St. Augustine said it best: "You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you." The security in the knowledge that nothing can separate us from the love of God changes one’s perspective on all of life, both the good and the bad. I would not trade the meaning and purpose of a life of faith for the emptiness and pointlessness of…
