A Daily Devotion for Thursday, December 9

Writer's picture: ontrakkontrakk

1 Peter 2:1-3

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

To have everything we need, right at our fingertips is such a joy. God made sure we had the written account to refer to. After Jesus walked the earth, his disciples and many, many others contributed to tell the story of what they saw and experienced. This “spiritual food” tells me how to stay on track. There should be no room in me for “malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy or slander.”

Father God, help me to stay on your path, and to grow in love and faith. You have provided me the spiritual food I need for that growth. Help me to take it in, and benefit from every bit of it. Amen

1 Peter 2:1-3 The need for milk is necessary for a baby because it provides all the nutrients that are needed to grow. Once we see the need for God’s word, like a baby, we will receive the nourishments we need to grow with Jesus. We will continue to mature with the word of God. To be born again is not a one-time event. Just as milk provides physical nourishment for a baby, God’s Word provides spiritual nourishment. Babies grow by means of milk. Christians grow by means of God’s Word. Heavenly Father, thank You for Your guidance. Forgive me for not understanding your plans, and help me to know when to stop and listen for your direction. Your way…

1 Peter 2:1-3

Peter cites great examples of addition by subtraction. We grow in grace by ridding ourselves of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander. These worthless obsessions inhibit our spiritual growth. As we pray for the good of others we must also pray that these bad things are purged from us.

Prayer - God of growth, nurture my spiritual growth by removing all that hinders it. Neutralize and rid my spirit of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander. Make room in my heart only for that which glorious does and honors You. Amen

I need spiritual nourishment in order to grow in my faith. I do this by continually reading the Bible and always learning new things about God’s word. I also have to cleanse myself of all things that lead to sin. Repentance is needed in order to receive the spiritual nourishment from God. Repentance also helps me grow in my Christian faith.

Dearest Lord, thank you for all you have given to me.…
