Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
In our culture, we often hear variations of this phrase: ”knowledge is power”. I suppose that in many circumstances this is true. The more we know about a situation, the better equipped we are to make the right decision. But sometimes knowing more facts has not been helpful to me. Sometimes more facts just lead to confusion or worry. Ultimately, in every situation, I need to understand and accept that God is in control, and
I am not. Even when I have all of the facts, God decides the outcome. In the meantime I can have peace, and try my hardest to shine the light and love of God.
Holy Lord, you know what is in my heart. Hear the “groans” from my soul, I pray. Thank you for taking control, and help me to remember to let go. Amen

Isaiah 55:8-11 and Proverbs 3:5
from the Message: Trust God from the bottom of your heart, don't try to figure out everything on your own. Verse 6 then says Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track.
Today's devotion was good and the lesson from Proverbs was even better. We do try to figure out things on our own without involving God. Verse 6 is the key--Listen for God's voice. We, often, in our frustration forget to listen. We are too busy making noise that gets us nowhere.
Prayer: Gracious God, In my frustration, may I remember to stop and listen for you. AMEN

A change in perspective
(Focus: to seek God’s wisdom in all situations
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
.What does it mean to lean on something? That brings to mind a crutch, or a cane, or a walker. Something that keeps us steady as we’re walking, something that supports us and keeps us from falling over. My understanding of any given thing is likely to be different from your natural understanding – we each have different viewpoints and explanations. So among people who exist there are many different “understandings” that could be leaned upon – each one seeing from a different view point and not seeing…
Proverbs 3:5
This is a life verse for many people. They are indeed words we all can live by. Trusting God does not mean being totally passive and letting oneself be controlled by random circumstances. We have been given the ability to reason and understand situations as well as the free will to act. The proverb simply reminds us our own understanding, without trust in God’s sovereignty in all situations, is insufficient to bear the weight of leaning on human understanding alone. It is always the right time to pause and seek God’s guidance by way of any of the spiritual disciplines that bridge the thin places and put us in the path where God would have us go. Going…
