Romans 6:22
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
So, if I have ever wondered about how the truth sets me free, this verse will remind me. I do not need to live my life worrying what will happen to me after I die. As a believer, I am free from worrying about sin and its repercussions for me. I still must make good decisions, but accept mistakes and repent. But with the Holy Spirit, and the forgiveness of my sins, I remain on track, a “slave of God” and on track for an eternity with God, as promised.
Holy Father, you have truly set me free for eternity. I am sorry when I disappoint, after all you have given. Amen

Jesus died for us and set us free. His birth, death and resurrection gave us the means to be set free of the sins of Adam and Eve and to be born again in him. This freedom gives us the means to keep temptation at bay and do the best we can to stay free of sin. In this we are promised eternal life with God in heaven.

Romans 6:22
I preached on this verse over 25 years ago at St. Mark’s UMC in Staten Island. The sermon title was “Free to be a Slave.” In this hypersensitive age of offense, the mere suggestion that one should willingly be a slave to something is met with shrieks of indignation, yet many of the same folks shrieking are slaves to technology, work, sex, substances or marketplace trends. We were given the free will to choose to what we will be a slave, but there is no escaping the human condition to be a slave to something. The only choice that offers spiritual and eternal freedom is the choice made for God.
