Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Sometimes I feel “less than” when people share their histories of when/how they came to know God or accepted Jesus as their savior. Some of these witness stories are so amazing! I was one of those children brought up in a Christian home, and so I don’t remember discovering God or realizing I had accepted Christ. I just always had God. Sometimes he felt close, sometimes I wandered away. When I returned, He held out his hand to me. I have not turned away for many years, and I do not know how I could possibly live without Him. What seems like an ordinary childhood without any exciting revelations or miracles was the best I could ever ask for. God has been with me for as long as I can remember, and that is everything to me.
Holy Lord, I am thankful for your steadfast presence in my life, your patience, your love and your grace. Amen

THE Two house builders
Focus: children who have been orphaned
Matthew 7:24
Matthew 7:24
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
To have a house built on a rock means to live a life that is steady and unshakable . This means it cannot be moved when the storms of life come at us. When our house is build upon the rock we learn to hear and read the word of GOd, it’s also built upon the rock because we live by obeying God’s word. Much like the reader in the upper room, I felt very along , while…
Matthew 7:24
After reading today's devotion, I again realize how blessed I was to grow up in a family with faith. I understood I was a child of God who loved me. It is always uplifting to read about a seeker, especially a young person, who finds God as their Father and they become part of the family of God.
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for making me who I am--one of your children. AMEN
Matthew 7:24-27 Engineers know and put into practice principles that make structures sound, able to withstand the elements. I remember touring the Emergency Operations Center in the Hollywood Hills and seeing an enormous building built on what were literally sophisticated shock absorbers. The building, in theory, would be able to withstand a large magnitude earthquake by moving with the movement of the earth. Jesus teaches us the foundation of our spiritual life is just as important to us individually. Life is full of earthquakes, large and small. Resting in the rock-solid, unshakable foundation of trust in God, faith in Christ and hope in the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to ride out the crisis to emerge on the other side with…
