A Daily Devotion for Monday, October 25

1Peter 5:8

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

This holds so much truth. The piece I am really seeing is the word “alert.” It is easy enough to be self-controlled when I am not being poked at by fatigue, frustration, disappointment, etc. When I start to recognize these feelings, if I am alert to them, I am more likely to stay in control. When I begin to feel negative, my first reaction should be to ask God for strength.

Holy Father, you are here with me, always. I need only to ask for your help. You give me the protection of self-control, but sometimes I forget to use it until it is too late. Create in me a clean heart, comfortable and sufficient for your dwelling. Amen

1 Peter 5:8. From the Message Version: Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Stay alert, be vigilant, be in control. Peter’s message is a strong one. Always remember the devil is ready and waiting to take advantage of any doubt that may creep into your faith. The best way to do this is remaining faithful to worship and studying the Bible. There is constant help in the Bible’s words. Prayer: gracious God keep me in control of my faith by my actions. Let the devil know he is not welcome. Amen

1 Peter 5: 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

The older I get the less I have to worry about temptation. The thing I must stay alert about is the way I think about what is happening around me and the people around me. I am seldom in a position to act contrary to God’s will but I can still think wrong thoughts.

Dear Lord the strength I get from your word and from the Christians around me will keep the devil from influences my thoughts. Thank you. Amen.

1 Peter 5: 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

This verse tells me to be alert at all times because Satan never gives up. It matters that I pay attention to what is going on in my life and around me. The devil would like to devour us and it is through self-control that we conquer sin. Since Satan cannot touch the believer’s soul, he looks for our weakest link. Self-control is key.

Dearest Lord, thank you for the Holy Spirit. It is with his help that I am able to use self-control and deny Satan access to my soul. In Jesus name …

1Peter 5:8

The image of a lion on the prowl is powerful and frightening, but modern culture no longer takes the devil seriously. We fall into this trap at our peril, as it provides the opening needed to find ourselves devoured by something or things we never dreamed would ever involve us. A certain level of vigilance should always be part of our arsenal of self-control.

Prayer - God of protection, let me be watchful and discerning in all thought, word and deed. May self-control be tempered with vigilance at all times as the enemy seeks to destroy me. Only by the power of the Holy Spirit can I keep evil at bay. Amen

1 Peter :5-8 Be self controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for some one to devour. The more of God’s word, I get inside of me the more I am able to deal with satan and his evil ways. I know that God cannot be tempted by evil and therefore will never tempt me. This short verse is so clear in what Peter is telling us. We know our enemy is the devil. Our problem is not with the people, but the evil behind these people.( who allow the devil to control their lives) Without self control we allow evil to control us. I need to remember this and know I will eliminat…
