A Daily Devotion for Monday, November 25

James 1:17

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

We are blessed with so many “good and perfect gifts.” I think it is easy to forget this when things happen which are not good, and are not perfect. God’s goodness does not change. Our circumstances change, and the free will and poor decisions of others (and of ourselves) can create some very painful outcomes. But everything that is good, and all that is beautiful and comforting and rejuvenating comes from God. It is all available to us for comfort and healing. I pray today that God’s goodness be the lens through which I see and experience this life. Amen

We have so many good and perfect gifts to be thankful for both tremendous, like the birth of a precious grandchild, or small, like a good nights rest. For all blessings I am so very much thankful every, single, day! Dear Lord, let me never take for granted the wonderful blessings that…

James 1:17

As hardworking Americans, we seldom give God credit for what we have. We forget God made us and gave us the skills we have. We often think it's all our hard work. However, when things go wrong, we turn to and sometimes blame God. He deserves no blame, especially when we haven't thanked him for all we have.

Prayer: Gracious God, help us remember your role in our lives and give credit where credit is due. Amen

James 1:17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

The lesson of Thanksgiving is that every good thing in our lives comes from God, so we should be thankful to Him for all that we have; it emphasizes that God is the source of all good, and our gratitude should be directed towards Him for everything. Not  just the positive happenings  of our lives, but to think about all the different ways God gives us good and perfect gifts, and why the Bible talks  so much about praising and thanking Him for these things. Who God…

James 1:17

I am certainly thankful for every good and perfect gift from God, but in the final analysis, am most thankful that God does not change like shifting shadows. The seminary word for this is immutable. An unshakable faith that God is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow and for all time provides a solid foundation to life that, if absent, would be hopeless. We see today the hopelessness born of godlessness in Western culture’s rejection of the gospel message. Only when we recapture the vibrant faith currently seen in the global South, will we see a culture fueled by hope in the West. It is the duty of every Christian today to bear a remnant of that hope for…
