A Daily Devotion for Monday, March 25

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Today I am reminded that complaining and criticizing others is just another way of blaming someone else for my situation. If she hadn't _____, then I wouldn't be in this position. If he would just ______, my problem would be solved. The most important lesson for me is to stop and take a moment, and listen for the Holy Spirit to guide me, and help me to navigate more gracefully. In this way, God's Word never fails.

Holy Lord, remind me when I am not listening. Please be patient with me, for I am trying. Amen

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

The word of God is alive and powerful only if we read, study and act out its demands. The rest of this verse reminds us that we cannot blame others for our misdeeds. We have been reminded this week that God always knows and understands us better than we do ourselves. Nothing can be hidden from him. Amen

Prayer: Gracious God, Thank you for this daily exercise in learning and understanding your words and how they shape my life. Amen
