Proverbs 3:11-12

My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.

As I think about this idea of discipline from God, maybe all things which happen to us can be considered discipline, to a certain degree. We are all sinners, after all. God does not necessarily direct bad things to happen to any of us. But he has given us all free will, and because of this and because of all of the dangers of being human and living on this earth, things happen to us. God sometimes allows these things to happen, and always makes the way for us to learn from them. This is the only way I can understand discipline from God. Again, I hope to deepen my understanding of this.

Holy Lord, help me to see when or if I am being disciplined, so that I can learn. Let me know when I have displeased you, if I overlook my sin. I am sure I miss many opportunities to learn and grow. Help me, God. Amen

Proverbs 3:11–12

It is so easy for us to thank the Lord for all he has done for us. I know I find something to be thankful for each day. Therefore, we should understand God’s hand when things are not as we wanted or thought they would be. We need to remember, he only wants the best for us because he loves us. As parents, we understood this concerning our children so now as adults we need to try to understand things that the Lord has done to/for us.

Prayer: gracious God thank you for this reminder of your love that keeps us on the right path. Amen

Proverbs 3:11-12 Parental discipline, though not nearly as pleasant, conveys love just as surely as a hug. Modern culture chafes as discipline as a hindrance to various and often twisted notions of “self-actualization.” This is nothing more than original sin - wanting to be like God or worse, be our own “god.” Sin has consequences. Even when we have not sinned, bad things will happen to us in this fallen world. When they do, if we have the discipline to listen to God, God will reveal what it is we are to learn in those bad times.

Prayer - Merciful God, help me navigate life in a sinful world with the discipline to stay in, learn from and live out Your…

Proverbs 3:11-12

My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

If I am to succeed in life, I need to correct my mistakes. But because I can easily deceive myself into thinking my mistakes aren’t mistakes, I need the correction of the Lord. I need it often and I need it always. The point is, if a hardship is being used to bring healing to my heart, is this a clear sign God is disciplining me. I’m not sure how God is corrects me (perhaps the Holy Spirit) would give me a pr…
