A Daily Devotion for Monday, June 17

Ephesians 6:14

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place…..

This verse is definitely more meaningful taken in its full context. Paul is talking about the protection we have from any dark forces or forces of evil, if we put on His truth like a suit of armor. When we have accepted Christ as our savior, and have invited the Holy Spirit to dwell within us, we can more confidently take on our daily encounters with the world. The Holy Spirit dwelling in me will help me to recognize the truth and the more perfect choice to make. Sometimes choices do lead to pain, no matter what, and even with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I think I am learning that God’s truth does not free me from pain, but it can ‘deliver me from evil’.

Holy Lord, today when I meet with people who are in pain, help me to recognize your Holy Spirit’s urgings. Help me please to be ready with your truth, when I have the opportunity to speak it. Amen

Ephesians 6:14

Today, at Bel-Air Nursing Home, I told the story of David and Goliath. Despite the odds against him, David, a young shepherd boy, met Goliath without Saul’s golden armor for protection. He met Goliath with his trust in God, and he WON! He knew the truth of God’s protection for his people.

Prayer: Gracious God, May I be like David and put my trust in the truth of your love for me. Amen

Ephesians 6:14

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness.

This world should be about God and his glory and not about us. You and I are not the truth. Jesus is the truth. The truth of Jesus is that there is no one who is good because of our sinfulness,  deserving the wrath of God. We are given the word of God, we are told to tighten our belt in battle.  When the enemy comes against us we have to cling more tightly than ever to his word. God who is rich in mercy and love sent Jesus as the sacrifice for sins so that those…

Ephesians 6:14

In Paul’s famous description of the armor of faith, individual items are not haphazardly assigned. The belt of a suit of armor was not just a fashion accessory. It was needed to support and maintain everything else in its proper and most protective place. Truth is the belt that holds our faith system in place. Our faith is not based on superstition, fanciful tales, cultural traditions or blind ignorance. Our faith is strong and secure because it is supported by and rests on the truth.

Prayer - Merciful God, another week is upon us. Cover me in the armor of faith as I go out again into the world from my Sabbath cocoon. Let each part of the…
