A Daily Devotion for Monday, Jan. 12

Philippians 4:10-13

I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.


Hebrews13:5

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”


Being content with God’s will is not always easy. Sometimes God’s will is painful and feels drawn out and endless. In the UR devotion today, the children had fun on their outing, even though they had been promised ice cream and were unable to have it. To a child, this disappointment could feel huge. To an adult, we know that going without ice cream is not an important issue. In life, God’s will can be painful and require faith and prayer to endure. But we do not need to feel alone. God has promised, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”


Holy Lord, I know your will is perfect, but it is often painful. Help me to see the positives and feel your presence every moment of every day. Amen

Philippians 4:10-13. Hebrews 13:5 Contentment


"Live the life you love. Love the life you live." Paul could have said this, but, of course, he did not. How blessed I've been in my life to live this quote. Oh, of course, there have been sad and bad times, they are part of living. I've never let them define me. I have so much compared to some, but not enough compared to others. I've always felt content with what and who I have around me.


Prayer: Gracious God, You have blessed me beyond measure. Thank you. AMEN

Contentment

Philippians 4:10-13

Hebrews 13:5

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”


Several times in Hebrews 13:5-6 states very powerfully  that God will not leave us helpless. Saying this several  times strongly speaks of his promise to never leave us without support.,When we are stable and content it enables us to enjoy our lives. I have  found that I enjoy myself more when I I am able to be stable and content and I think other people enjoy me more this way as well.🥰 I believe the same is…

Paul sets the bar for contentment and gratitude for what we have and the situations we are in. He endured so much, but, still, always remained faithful, grateful and content. I need to turn my thoughts to Paul when I am unhappy about a situation in my life. My NKJV, in verse 13, says “ I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me”, of course, this doesn’t mean I can change anything in my life and I will not escape heartache. What this means is that I can get through anything with Christ by my side and for this, I am grateful.

Philippians 4:10-13/Hebrews13:5

There is a fine line between working hard to obtain nice things and becoming a slave to greed and the love of money. Scripture warns us in these verses and many others that the love of money destroys contentment. The relentless pursuit of more and more hardens hearts and displaces the much more important fruit of the Spirit that should be governing our lives. Now is this something I should be shouting out my car window at the down and out people who stand on the street corners begging? Obviously not, but I admit to an inner struggle as to how best to respond to their need. How can one person influence the abject failure of our culture…
