Psalm 5:12
Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
Psalm 121:1-8
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm —
he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
This is a challenging message for me today. I know that God is watching over me, but I also know that bad things can and do happen to good people. We can only see things from our human perspective. We don’t know the extent of God’s protection, what God does and doesn’t do to keep us from earthly harm on a daily basis. We value our human life so greatly because it is all that we know. But we are taught to believe that eternity with Christ is so much better, more beautiful, we cannot compare it to earthly life. I am content to know that God does protect me from many things, but not everything. I am hopeful that God’s promises will indeed lead me to an eternal life more beautiful and peaceful than I am able to imagine.
Holy Lord, thank you for your protection, and for your guidance and love which allows me to live this life. I do look forward to an eternity with you. Amen

Psalm 121:1-8 / Psalm 5:12
If God made heaven and earth, he can do anything. Life on this earth can be pretty scary sometimes, overwhelming sometimes and very stressful sometimes, but God is with me in all our moments, even when I doubt. He never takes a snooze.
Dear God, thank you for being with me wherever I go and in whatever I do. Thank you for being there for me in my highs and in my lows. I am forever grateful for Your shield. Amen.
Psalm 121:1-8. Psalm 5:12.
These verses are meant to remind and reassure us that God is our protector at all times--good or bad. So often we forget this and try to rely on ourselves instead of turning to him. Then as a last resort we cry out to him. Verses 1 and 2 were chosen for me to learn in Sunday School. I can mostly recite it today. Hopefully, that means I understand who to turn to immediately not when I've lost control.
Prayer: Gracious God, Thank you for this reminder that my help comes from you not myself. AMEM

Today’s reading psalm 121:1-8
Psalm 5:12
For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield.
Psalm 121 focuses on God as our personal guardian , and Psalm 5:12 focuses on God as a shield because of favor. Both carry the same, unshakable trust: God surrounds the believer with His protective presence. We are surrounded by something non believers cannot see, Wherever we go God’s favor goes with us. As we knock,it shall be opened as we seek, we will find ,as we ask, it shall be delivered unto us. Favor isn’t luck. It’s God at work in our life God has surrounde…
Psalm 5:12/Psalm 121:1-8
Unlike our Upper Room contributor, I have never tried to thwart a robbery. It is hard to imagine living day to day in a dangerous environment like Colombia with its Marxist guerrillas, narco-terrorists, Red Zones and common criminals impacting every aspect of daily life. It is frightening to realize how thin the line is between a normally functioning society and one dominated by lawlessness and fear. There are days when it seems our own country is lurching toward this kind of dystopian chaos. Regardless of the direction the culture at large takes, people of faith will know from where their most dependable help comes. We will trust that the Lord’s favor is our shield and the Lord…
