Romans 5:1-5
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
It is so very true that trials bring us closer to God. If we allow ourselves to respond to God- when we listen for him and accept his peace and comfort, we move closer to him. Over the years I have noticed that the times I am closest to and feel most connected with God are the times I am regularly reading his word. For me the “secret sauce” is being in his word regularly and daily. Now, when trials come along, I have the assurance that God is near, and I can call out to Him knowing he is hearing me, and we don’t need to get reacquainted. Of course, God never forgets us. But it is always a good thing to stay close.
Holy Lord, I am so thankful for your presence, in good times and in bad. I am thankful for your word, which keeps me close. You are ever-loving, ever-forgiving, and always nourishing my hope and faith. Thank-you, Lord. Amen

Romans 5:1-5
I am currently in what my family calls my “pre-trip frenzy”. We are getting ready to leave for a week away and I have spent the last week prepping for the trip, lists, lists, lists! Pantry box, check, art box, check, last minute groceries, check, laundry, check, suitcase, check…just reading over it all is exhausting. It takes me at least a day to unwind when we arrive. Is it all necessary…probably not. While some preparation is necessary, I tend to get too caught up in it and don’t stop to enjoy the anticipation of the trip.
The only preparation I truly need to concern myself with is the preparation for redemption and eternal life. Preparing, simply, by accepting…
Romans 5:1-5.
We live in a culture that focuses on what is ahead--not the present moment. We need to have plans and even a Plan B just in case. Sometimes when I focus on the present and try to enjoy just being, there is that nagging voice telling me I am wasting precious time. I try to ignore it, but the call to be planning and looking ahead is strong.
Prayer: Gracious God, help me to slow down, without regret and be present to enjoy the journey. AMEN

ENJOY THE JOURNEY
(Focus: to Find Joy In Each Day
Romans 5:3-4
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.

I can remember vividly the times we were going on family trips, the kids would always ask are we there yet. I am sure as parents we can all relate to this. The kids were so anxious to arrive at the destination that they couldn’t enjoy the journey. . I understand that some people cannot understand that…
Romans 5:1-5
Impatience is a struggle for me. Waiting in lines, being caught in traffic, being on hold, even sitting through what seems like an endless stream of commercials when I am trying to watch something on television can get under my skin. Then when I read about people who have undergone years of suffering and hardship waiting for a prayer to be answered, yet remaining steadfast in their perseverance and character, I realize how silly my behavior is. Perseverance, character and hope should be my aim in all difficult times. If I can practice with the little ones, I can do better when the big ones come.
Prayer - Holy Spirit, Your fruit of patience sometimes eludes me. Help…
