A daily Devotion for Friday, November 28

I Timothy 1:12-17

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners —of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

I think that Paul was right- I think Jesus chose him partly for his extraordinary “badness.” But along with all of this sin was a sharp and intuitive mind and fearless commitment to his beliefs. He was a wrong-thinking sinner, no doubt. But through all of this, God saw a man who would fight tirelessly for what he believed. God softened Paul’s heart and showed him the Truth. Certainly God forgives me for my sins when I am repentant. Jesus died for all of our sins- past and present, big and small. May I always remember this immense sacrifice and the grace which brought me to Him. Amen

1 Timothy 1:12-17 God's Transforming Love

As "seasoned" Christians, we've learned (I hope) that God often chose people, not because they were right for the job, but to teach them AND us that he will be right there with them to get them through what they insisted they could not do--choose someone else they said! This is an important lesson for new Christians, especially those who think they are unworthy of God's love. There are plenty of examples in both the Old and New Testaments. Like the Line in the song says:

Prayer: Gracious God, If I can't preach like Peter, If I can't pray like Paul, I just tell the love of Jesus and say He died for all…

God’s transforming love

(focus: to seek God’s grace and forgiveness

1 Timothy 1:15

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

We  don't have to be perfect: we don't need to be worthy of saving based on our  own merits. Paul's experience shows that being a sinner is the very reason for which Christ came. Our  past mistakes or struggles do not put us beyond God's reach. God's decision to save is not based on human worthiness, good deeds, or rightness ,but purely on His own mercy and grace .This means we are considered worth saving not because of…

I Timothy 1:12-17

In our day, there are two sides of the story Paul tells Timothy. It remains true today that God can redeem the most depraved of sinners the instant that sinner is convicted by the reality of their sin and the desparate need for a savior. It is sad, however, how many are indeed convicted of their sin, but refuse to believe salvation is possible. They stand with Paul in believing they are the worst of sinners, do not seek grace because they are convinced God could not possibly forgive them. If we have a burden for the souls who do not yet belong to Jesus, we must always encourage all who are seeking there is no sin(s)…
